WELLINGTON, [New Zealand]

New Zealand is blessed with rare beauty, its glacial mountains, fast-flowing rivers, crystal clear lakes, hissing geysers and boiling mud combining to form a truly splendid sight. This country is also rich with great forest reserves, isolated beaches and varied fauna including the famed kiwi so deeply associated with New Zealand's identity. On offer for the adventurous are outdoor activities like tramping (hiking), skiing, rafting and bungy jumping. The dolphins here are as welcoming as ever. Also lending an idyllic touch are new-born lambs, whales in the blue waters and the ubiquitous trout in the gurgling streams.

The months between November and April are high season, especially during the Christmas holidays. Travel plans in these months must be organised well in advance as bookings may be a problem at short notice. For those not keen on crowds, the months immediately before or after the peak season are highly recommended.
