The third most famous skiing spot in the country, Auli is 12 kms away from Joshimath. There are dozens of trekking routes for those interested in adventure travel; the laidback can enjoy the scenery which is extraordinary.
One road from here leads to the famous Valley of Flowers. The hot water springs are awesome. The skiing centre in Auli was set up in 1984. The Uttar Pradesh Government's Garhwal Mandal Corporation runs this centre. This spot was discovered by the Indian Army posted on the Tibetan border.
Auli is considered the best skiing slope in Asia. Both sides of the slope are covered with oak and coniferous trees which help break the speed of the wind, making Auli an ideal spot for skiing.

BY ROAD: Auli is a 13 km drive from Joshimath. State transport and Union buses play regularly between Joshimath and Rishikesh (253 km).
BY RAIL: nearest rail head is Haridwar which is 299 km away.
