In the Himalayan belt to the west of Nepal lies the picturesque Kumaon region, immortalized by the legendary Jim Corbett and widely referred to as India's Lake District. At the foot of these lovely mountains is the Corbett National Park known across wildlife circles for its rich reserve of tiger, elephant, leopard, deer, Himalayan black bear, wild boar and the gharial.
DAY 1: DELHI - NAINITAL (7 HRS)
You can either drive straight to Nainital or take a train up to Ramnagar and then be transferred to Nainital and check into a hotel. Known as the Switzerland of Asia, Nainital is dotted with lakes. You can spend a leisurely day and go for a walk around this beautiful hill town in the evening. For a stunning view of the Himalayas a walk up to Naini peak is highly recommended. A boat ride on the lake too is a beautiful experience. Overnight in Nainital.
DAY 2: NAINITAL - RAMGARH (2 HRS)
In the morning, visit the lakes at Bhimtal Sat Tal. Post-lunch drive to the Pamgarh hunting lodge via EhowarI. Check in to the lodge which sits amid lush orchards and deep forests. From here you can pay a visit to Mukteshwar, famous for its temples. Overnight in Ramgarh.
DAY 3: RAMGARH - BINSAR (3 - 4 HRS)
Drive to Binsar via Almora, Kumaon's cultural capital since 1560.An extremely scenic spot, Binsar offers spectacular views of the snow-clad Himalayas. Check into the mountain resort here. Overnight in Binsar.
DAY 4: BINSAR - KAUSANI (3 - 4 HRS)
Drive to Kausani and check into a hotel. Kausani offers a panoramic 300km wide view of the Nanda Devi mountains. From here visit Baijnath, a small ancient town known for its uniquely carved 12th and 13th century Katyuri temples on the banks of the river Gomti. Also visit Bageshwar, the most important pilgrim spot of Kumaon. Overnight in Kausani.
DAY 5: KAUSANI - RANIKHET (3 - 4 HRS)
After breakfast, depart for Ranikhet, a pretty cantonment town established in 1869.After your hotel check in, you have the entire day to relax in the town's serenity, walk around and take in the breathtaking view of the twin peaks of Nanda Devi. You can also enjoy a game of golf if you wish. Overnight in Ranikhet.
DAY 6: RANIKHET - CORBETT (3 HRS)
Drive to the Corbett National Park through a picturesque forest stretch. Check into your forest resort. Spend a relaxed evening at the resort. Overnight in Corbett.
DAY 7: CORBETT
Take an early morning Elephant Safari into the forest reserve accompanied by a naturalist. There is also an optional elephant/jeep safari in the evening. In the evening sit around a bonfire and enjoy a great barbecue. Overnight in Corbett.
DAY 8: CORBETT - DELHI (7 HRS)
Drive back to Delhi.
